Less expensive – When going
with a billing company, all you would need to be concerned
with is paying for the services received. If you go with an
internal staff to handle your billing, you may also have to
provide the following:
- Cost of computer – Most decent desktop computers would cost at least $500, possibly even more if a monitor is not included.
- Cost of software – Beyond just the cost of a computer, you would also need to obtain software to process and submit claims.
- Cost of office space – When hiring an internal staff to handle your billing, you would need to have reasonable workspace available.
- Benefits – It is also quite likely that you would have to offer benefits in addition to salary (insurance, etc.)
- Less time consuming – By working with a billing company, the claim process is handled for you. This gives you more time to devote to your practice.
- Fully electronic – By filing paper claims, it could take weeks, even months for a claim to be processed. My company is fully electronic, so the turnaround on filing a claim is much quicker. Therefore, payments are made much quicker.
- Regular meetings to review account – These meetings can be held as often as you would like. They would cover claims filed and paid since the last meeting, what had to be written off, what was paid by insurance, and what was paid by patient among other topics.
- Verification of EOB (Explanation of Benefits) with original claim forms for accuracy – When you receive an EOB for a claim, I will review and compare it to the original claim that was filed.
- Dialogue with patients regarding accounts – Patients may
contact me with any questions they may have regarding their
accounts (verifying they are current, question on why they
may owe a certain amount, etc.).
